VI Motorists Warned: Click It or Ticket

U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD)/Office of Highway Safety (OHS) will join the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in urging drivers to buckle up during the national Click It or Ticket high-visibility seat belt enforcement initiative. The national seat belt campaign and enforcement effort, which coincides with the Memorial Day holiday, will begin on May 19, 2026, and run through June 1, 2026. However, to address low seat belt compliance in the territory, VIPD officers will extend high-visibility enforcement efforts from April 19, 2026 through September 26, 2026.

The Traffic Investigation Bureaus in the St. Thomas/St. John and St. Croix districts will be conducting enforcement initiatives along the territorial roadways to include but not limited to Routes 75, 70, 83, 708, 681, 68, 63, 62, 60, 682, 79, 72, 66, 64, 652, 707, 681 & 64 on St. Croix, Routes 30, 32, 38 and 40 on St. Thomas, and Routes 10 and 20 on St. John.

The enforcement efforts may focus on the use of restraint system by infants, children and adults, in accordance with Title 20 section 466 of the Virgin Islands Code. However, the officers are required to address other traffic infractions to include, but not limited to, unregistered and uninsured vehicles, tinted windshields, license plate infractions, and impaired driving.
