420: Stay Safe. Stay Sober. Protect Our Community.

U.S. Virgin Islands – As 4/20 (420), a day commonly associated with marijuana use, is observed across the territory, the VI Police Department/Office of Highway Safety (VIPD/OHS) is urging residents and visitors to prioritize safety and look out for one another on our roadways.

Driving under the influence of marijuana or any impairing substance can affect judgment, slow reaction time, and reduce coordination—putting drivers, passengers, and pedestrians at risk. Even small amounts can make a big difference behind the wheel.

“Driving while impaired by any substance — legal or illegal — puts you and others in harm’s way,” said Director Daphne O’Neal. “It’s a common and dangerous misconception that people drive better when they are high.”

This 4/20, the message is about community responsibility. Whether you’re heading to an event or spending time with friends, plan ahead. Choose a designated driver or make arrangements to get home safely.

Every safe decision helps protect our families, our friends, and our community.

If You Feel Different, You Drive Different.

Drive Sober. Stay Alive.
