You’ll Be Thankful for a Sober Ride Home

U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) and the Office of Highway Safety (VIOHS) remind everyone that Thanksgiving should end with leftovers and laughter — not flashing lights and sirens.

This holiday, if your plans include alcohol or other impairing substances, plan for a sober ride home before the first drink. One careless choice can turn a night of catching up with loved ones into a lifetime of regret.

“Distractions, alcohol, and fatigue are a dangerous mix,” said VIOHS Impaired Driving Program Manager, K’ Tonya Petrus. “If you care about someone, speak up and help them get home safely.” If you’re hitting the road, stay alert, stay sober, and stay buckled.”

Whether you’re driving across town or across the island, make safety part of your Thanksgiving plans. Call a friend, use a ride service, or designate a sober driver, because the best way to show thanks is to arrive alive.

Drive Sober. Stay Safe. Give Thanks.
