St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) extends its sincere appreciation to the residents of Clifton Hill, community sponsors, government partners, participants, and supporters who helped make the 5th Annual Coasting Competition, held during the Labor Day weekend, a tremendous success.
Since 2021, the Bike Coasting Competition has evolved into more than just a race. It has become a community-centered event that promotes positive youth engagement, healthy competition, and meaningful interaction between law enforcement and residents. The event continues to serve as a powerful bridge between the VIPD and the community, creating opportunities for officers and young people to connect in a positive environment while fostering trust, collaboration, and mutual respect.
VIPD Chief Uston Cornelius, reflected on the inspiration behind the event and its continuing impact on the community.
“Growing up was not easy for us. We had to find a way to have fun. Our minds, our hands, and our community were what we had,” said Chief Cornelius. “Riding bikes was one of the ways we passed the time, and eventually it progressed to racing.”
Chief Cornelius explained that childhood memories and lessons learned from family and community members inspired him to bring the activity back as a way to positively engage youth.
This year’s competition featured skilled riders from across the territory, including Glenroy Jr., Joshua, Shaquan “Dark Knight,” Ryan Shang “Lethal Threat,” Mikie “Sneaky Link,” and special guest Lincoln, riding “Secario,” representing the sister island of St. Thomas.
The 2026 Bike Coasting Competition recognized the following racers for their outstanding performances:
Youngsters Division (10-13 years-old)
- 1st Place: Glenroy Ayala Jr. riding Rose
- 2nd Place: Amani Morales riding Mystery
- 3rd Place: Joshua riding Goblin
Adults Division (18-Up)
- 1st Place: Requan riding Dark Knight
- 2nd Place: Ryan Shang riding Lethal Threat
- 3rd Place: Mikie riding Sneaky Link
- 4th Place: Belle riding VI Mafia
- 5th Place: Andie riding Shenseea
Participants received monetary awards to assist with purchasing school supplies and other educational needs, reinforcing the VIPD’s commitment to supporting youth achievement both on and off the course.
The bike coasting event concluded safely and without incident, reflecting the dedication and cooperation of organizers, participants, public safety personnel, and community supporters.
