VIPD Issues Warning following Rash of Crashes

U.S. Virgin Islands – The VI Police Department (VIPD)/Office of Highway Safety’s (VIOHS) is issuing strong reminders to the motoring community and all other road users to adhere to the rules of the road and traffic laws. This alarm follows a recent rash of violent crashes and roadway fatalities.

The VIPD extends sincere condolences to the families who lost loved ones in recent crashes. “Tragically high speeds and reckless driving are the main crash contributors,” explained VIOHS Director, Daphne O’Neal. “It is imperative that motorists consistently make safe choices to protect themselves, their passengers and other road users.” Other strategies that lower crash risks include driving sober, not driving drowsy or drug impaired, buckling up and refraining from cell phone use while behind the wheel. Plan to get safely to your destination everytime.

For more information or to suggest innovative ways to reduce risky roadway choices, contact the Virgin Islands Office of Highway Safety through Director O’Neal at daphne.oneal@vipd.vi.gov, or Occupant Protection Program Manager, Denise Gomes, at denise.gomes@vipd.vi.gov. You may also contact the office via telephone at (340) 712-6073 or (340) 473-7383.
