
St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – On May 5, 2017, a female reported at the Wilbur Francis Command a series of prior sexual assaults that had been committed against a female minor. Investigators identified the suspect as Alexander Burgos Matos, an adult male. Burgos Matos fled the island during the investigation. An arrest warrant was obtained from a Judge at the Superior Court.
Burgos Matos, 53, was arrested by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department at Fort Wayne, Indiana. On August 25, 2026, Burgos Matos waived his extradition and consented to be returned to the Virgin Islands. On September 14, 2026, Burgos Matos was returned to St. Croix.
Burgos Matos was arrested, booked, and unable to post bail in the amount of $150,000.00. He was charged with Aggravated Rape First Degree, Unlawful sexual contact Dirst Degree, Aggravated Child Abuse and Child Abuse. He was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correction Facility pending his advice of rights scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Kings Hill Superior Court.
