SOB Units Make Arrest After Discovery of Unlicensed Firearm During Traffic Stop

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – On Saturday, June 13, 2026, at approximately 1:15 a.m., officers of the Virgin Islands Police Department Special Operations Bureau observed a blue Toyota SUV drive through a red signal light at the intersection of Raadets Gade and Veterans Drive.

The officers conducted a traffic stop of the blue SUV where a pat down was subsequently conducted for officer safety. The operator, who was later identified as Jeffrey Lewis Jr., informed the officers that he was in possession of marijuana.

A search of Lewis’ vehicle was conducted and a 9mm handgun was discovered on the back seat, however, Lewis does not possess a firearm license. He was read his constitutional rights, placed under arrest, and transported to Richard Callwood Command where he was booked, processed, and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement. Lewis was charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition. Bail was set at $75,000.00.
