VIPD Traffic Investigation Bureau Investigating One-Vehicle Collision on St. Croix

ST. CROIX, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The Virgin Islands Police Department’s Traffic
Investigation Bureau (TIB) is investigating a one-vehicle collision that occurred on Wednesday,
October 14, 2026, at approximately 12:29 p.m. at the intersection of Paradise Road (Route
69) and Melvin H. Evans Highway (Route 66).

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched Traffic Investigation Bureau detectives to the
scene. Police, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Fire personnel also responded.

EMS personnel provided medical assistance to the driver, who was subsequently transported
to Juan F. Luis Hospital for further treatment. The driver underwent emergency surgery and
remains on a ventilator.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver was traveling westbound when they lost
control of the vehicle and collided with a guardrail. Investigators determined that the driver
was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes
available.

The Virgin Islands Police Department reminds motorists that wearing a seat belt is one of the
most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious injury in a motor vehicle collision. Drivers
are urged to remain attentive, maintain control of their vehicles, and practice safe driving
habits at all times.
