U.S. Virgin Islands — The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) is alerting the public to a fraudulent text message currently circulating that falsely claims recipients have outstanding traffic violations and must pay fines online.
The message is a scam and is not affiliated with the Virgin Islands Police Department or any legitimate government agency in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Residents are urged not to click on any links, not to respond to the message, and not to provide any personal, financial, or identifying information. Engaging with the message could place individuals at risk of identity theft, financial loss, or other fraudulent activity.
If you receive one of these messages, delete it immediately. Remain vigilant and exercise caution when receiving unsolicited texts, emails, or phone calls requesting payment or sensitive personal information.
The VIPD encourages residents to share this warning with family members, friends, and neighbors to help raise awareness and prevent others from becoming victims of this scam.
