VIPD Identify the Drowning Victim by the Christiansted Boardwalk

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – A concerned citizen reported to St. Croix 911 Emergency Call Center on Monday, April 13, 2026, at approximately 9:20 a.m., that the body of a male was fully submerged under water at the Christiansted Boardwalk near Rum Runners.

Emergency Medical Technicians confirmed the individual had no signs of life. The male was identified as 55-year-old Barnet Valarie. Preliminary investigation does not show any foul play. The cause of death will be identified pending the medical examiner’s findings.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau continues to investigate this matter and urges anyone with information to contact 911, the Major Crimes Unit at 340-778-2211 or Crime Stoppers VI at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
