
St. Thomas, Virgin Islands – On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at approximately 7:06 p.m., Officers were dispatched to Contant in the area of Weslyan Church in reference to a male creating a disturbance with a knife in his hand. Upon arrival, the officers observed a black male outside holding a knife and as officers approach, he went inside the gate and closed it.
The officers made contact with the male victim, who stated he went to David Burgess’ residence to drop off a vehicle to Burgess’ relative. The victim indicated that Burgess did not want him in the yard and that Burgess attacked him with a tire wrench and a knife; striking him twice with the wrench to the head and made threats to kill him. The victim showed the officers a video, recorded on his phone showing Burgess assaulting him with the wrench. Officers observed a laceration to the victim’s head; however, he refused medical attention from the Emergency Medical Technicians.
The officers detained Burgess, who was positively identified by the complainant as the individual that assaulted him.
David Burgess, 40, was charged with Assault third, Disturbance of the peace, and Delaying and obstructing officers discharging their duties. He was booked, processed and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights Hearing. His bail was set at $25,000.00 by order of the court.
