Economic Crime Unit Arrest Former Home Depot Employee for Embezzlement

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – On March 6, 2025, Detectives from the Economic Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into Stefanie Matthew, which revealed that she knowingly utilized her position as an employee at The Home Depot and embezzled at least $2,321.15 from The Home Depot between December 2024 to March 2025.

On September 8, 2025, at approximately 5:38 p.m., Detectives from the Virgin Islands Police Department’s Economic Crime Unit made contact with Matthew, who was served her Arrest Warrant and placed under arrest, without incident. Stefanie Matthew, 25, was advised of her rights, booked and charged with Grand Larceny and Embezzlement by Employee.

Matthew was processed and bail was set at $20,000.00 as per chart. Unable to post bail, Matthew was transported to John A. Bell Correctional Facility pending her Advise of Rights hearing.
