WOMAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING PHYSICAL ALTERCATION AT THE MARKET-TUTU PARK MALL

LOWAYNA DURANT

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – On Friday, October 31, 2025, at approximately 2:40 p.m.,
officers from the Virgin Islands Police Department responded to a report of a physical
altercation between a male and a female at The Market, located in Tutu Park Mall.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the individuals involved. Preliminary investigation
revealed that during the confrontation, Ms. Lowanya Durant lunged at the male individual
and struck him with her fist, causing him to lose balance, he then hit his head on a shelf and
sustained a laceration to his ear. The injured party was transported to the Roy Lester
Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment and is in stable condition.

Following the investigation and review of surveillance footage, Lowanya Durant, age 39, was
arrested and charged with Assault 3rd, Mayhem, Reckless Endangerment, Disturbance of the
Peace, and Simple Assault.

Bail for Durant was set at $25,000.00. Unable to post bail, she was remanded to the Bureau
of Corrections pending her Advice of Rights Hearing scheduled for Monday, November 3,
2025, at the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.
