
CHRISTIANSTED, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands — August 14, 2026: The Virgin Islands Police
Department announces the arrest of 34-year-old I’Ko Matthias, who was taken into custody
on an outstanding arrest and DNA warrant issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.
On May 2, 2026, at approximately 1:29 a.m., detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation
Bureau (CIB) and Intelligence Unit conducted a traffic stop in the Anna’s Hope area of
Christiansted, St. Croix, and attempted to make contact with the vehicle’s driver. The driver
fled from the scene on foot, abandoning the vehicle.
The driver was subsequently identified as I’Ko Matthias. An inventory of the abandoned
vehicle resulted in the discovery of numerous items of illegal contraband.
On July 17, 2026, an arrest and DNA warrant was obtained for Matthias through the Superior
Court of the Virgin Islands. His bail was set at $50,000.
On August 13, 2026, detectives assigned to the Intelligence Unit located Matthias in St. Croix.
A traffic stop was conducted, and Matthias was taken into custody without incident. He was
provided with a copy of the arrest and DNA warrant and subsequently placed under arrest.
Matthias was booked and remained unable to post the court-ordered bail. He was remanded
to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his Advice of Rights Hearing, scheduled for
August 14, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., before the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.
The investigation remains ongoing.
