St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Office of Highway Safety (VIOHS) extends its sincere gratitude to the individuals and organizations who supported the recent DUI Awareness Initiative conducted from November 15, 2025, through January 10, 2026, along Melvin H. Evans Highway near Emancipation Drive.
The initiative featured a dramatic display of a crashed vehicle with life-sized dummies, including one hanging outside the windshield and a child outside the rear left window. The exhibit vividly illustrated the dangers of impaired driving, including unbuckled passengers and the consequences of speeding, and drew attention during the holiday and Crucian Christmas Festival season, when traffic and impaired-driving risks are higher.
“The visual display made a real impression on our community,” said Daphne O’Neal, VIOHS Director. “Motorists and pedestrians paused to observe the exhibit, reflecting on the serious consequences of reckless and impaired driving. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many noting how it sparked conversations about safe driving and personal responsibility.”
Thanks to community support, VIOHS delivered a powerful safety message promoting seatbelt use, safe speeds, and sober driving throughout the Virgin Islands.
