St. Thomas, Virgin Islands – On Friday, February 27, 2026, at approximately 9:51 a.m., while members of the Special Operations Bureau were patroling on Veterans Drive in the area of Vendors Plaza, they observed a vehicle without a license plate affixed to the front of the vehicle. Officers initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle and detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Both the driver and the occupant, Jalanie Daniel, were asked to exit the vehicle, to which they complied. They both were advised that the vehicle would be search for any illegal contraband and be pat down for officer safety. Prior to the pat down, Daniel informed officers that he was in possession of a firearm to which he did not possess a license to carry.
Jalanie Daniel, 44, was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. His bail was set at $60,000.00.
