Suspect in November 2024 Stabbing was Returned to St. Croix to Face Charges

St. Croix, Virgin Islands – On November 16, 2024, at approximately 8:47 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched patrol units to the Juan F. Luis Hospital in reference to an assault. Officers made contact with the victim, an adult male, who reported he was stabbed several times by the suspect.

The case was referred to a detective from the Major Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Bureau. As part of the investigation, the suspect was identified as Juan Gabriel Cintron Rodriguez, who had already fled the island, and his whereabouts were unknown. On December 22, 2025, an arrest warrant was obtained from the Superior Court and placed in the National Crime Information Center (N.C.I.C.) system.

On January 18, 2026, Cintron Rodriguez was apprehended in Patillas, Puerto Rico, by the Puerto Rico Police Department. On January 22, 2026, Cintron Rodriguez waived extradition, and on February 17, 2026, he was successfully extradited to the island of St. Croix with the assistance of the HIDTA personnel. Juan Cintron Rodriguez, age 39, was arrested, booked, and unable to post bail. He was charged with Attempted Murder First degree, Assault First, Assault Third, Carrying a dangerous weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Bail was set at $100,000.00. He was remanded to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending advice of rights on February 18, 2026, at the Superior Court.
