St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands — On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, officers assigned to the Special Operations Bureau were conducting patrol along Midland Road in the vicinity of Frontline Bar and Restaurant as part of “Operation Rapid Response.”
During the operation, officers observed a Black male quickly walking away from a black Acura TSX. As officers approached the vehicle, they observed a black handgun lying in plain view on the front passenger seat through the open driver’s side door.
The male later identified as 26-year-old Jahneal Gilbert was immediately detained. Gilbert admitted to officers that the firearm belonged to him. Officers’ investigation found that Gilbert does not have a license to carry or possess a firearm in the United States or its territories. He was placed under arrest for Carrying of a Firearm, Openly or Concealed and Possession or Sale of Ammunition. Bail was set at $50,000.00.
Gilbert was booked and processed. Unable to post bail, he was transported to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility, where he was remanded pending his Advise of Rights Hearing.
