U.S. Virgin Islands – As residents across the Virgin Islands prepare for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend, the Virgin Islands Police Department/Office of Highway Safety (VIPD/OHS) reminds families and friends to celebrate responsibly and safely.
The quote, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” uttered by Dr. King, is a message that resonates on our roads today. Consciously making safe choices on the roads improves safety for other road users by reducing risks of crashes, injuries and fatalities.
VIOHS encourages the community to follow key safety tips:
- Drive Sober– Impaired driving can ruin lives; plan ahead and designate a sober driver.
- Stay Focused– Distracted driving, including texting or phone use, puts everyone at risk.
- Slow Down– Speeding is dangerous; obey posted limits and drive cautiously.
- Buckle Up– Seatbelts save lives; make sure every passenger is secured on every trip.
- Watch for Pedestrians– Stay alert in crosswalks, parking lots, and poorly lit areas.
