Homeowner Detains Burglary Suspect on Hospital Street

THOMAS BRENNAN

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands — On March 28, 2026, at approximately 2:27 a.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a burglary in progress at a private residence on Hospital Street in Christiansted.

Responding officers made contact with the homeowner, who reported that Thomas Brennan opened the rear door of his residence and attempted to enter the home without permission. The homeowner intercepted Brennan during the attempted entry and reported firing two shots. Brennan was detained by the homeowner until officers arrived on the scene. The homeowner stated that no consent was given for Brennan to enter the residence.

Further investigation by the VIPD Burglary Unit revealed that Brennan removed property from the homeowner’s porch and used an object to damage the door lock in an attempt to gain entry into the residence.

Brennan, age 58, was advised of his Miranda Rights and placed under arrest for Attempted Burglary Second Degree, Trespass, Destruction of Property, and Petit Larceny. He was transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, where he was booked and processed. Bail was set at $5,500, and Brennan was subsequently remanded to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility, pending his Advice of Rights hearing.
