Former Employee Arrested for Embezzlement

KHADIJAH SMITH

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – On February 27, 2025, the Virgin Islands Police Department’s
Economic Crime Unit initiated an investigation into a report of embezzlement by an employee of
Liberty VI.

The investigation revealed that Khadijah Smith, a former employee, fraudulently credited over
$20,000.00 to customer accounts. Further inquiries determined that Ms. Smith admitted to issuing
unauthorized credits to customers, including herself.

On October 20, 2025, Ms. Smith voluntarily surrendered to detectives of the Economic Crime Unit,
where she was placed under arrest and charged with Embezzlement by Employee.

Bail for Ms. Smith was set at $200,000.00. She was transported to the Richard N. Callwood
Command, where she was booked and processed, and subsequently remanded to the Bureau of
Corrections pending her Advice of Rights Hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the
Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.

The Virgin Islands Police Department continues its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring
accountability in all cases involving financial crimes.
