St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, September 27, 2026, on Benburin Stephens Drive (Bovoni Road).
At approximately 3:31 a.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report from a citizen who reported that a vehicle had overturned on Bovoni Road in the area of Gasworks Gas Station.
Responding officers arrived on scene and observed a vehicle resting on its left side at the entrance of the gas station. Officers also observed an unresponsive male inside the vehicle. They were informed that two female occupants had already been transported by ambulance to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital prior to their arrival.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a white Subaru Forester SUV was traveling on Benburin Stephens Drive near Gasworks Gas Station when the female operator lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with a brick pillar at the entrance of the gas station. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn onto its left side.
At the time of the collision, there were three occupants in the vehicle. The driver sustained moderate injuries, while a female passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported for medical treatment. The male occupant succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The deceased male’s identity is being withheld pending notification and identification by next of kin.
The Traffic Investigation Bureau is continuing its investigation into this collision.
