

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – On April 6, 2026, at approximately 6:24 p.m., detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau were traveling vicinity of Paradise Road when they observed a Dodge Durango traveling in front of them with no rear license plate displayed.
A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, with had two male occupants: Mindo Byron, the driver and Mitche Matthew Jr., the front seat passenger. Byron, failed to produce a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and registration. A registration check confirmed the vehicle was unregistered, uninsured and had no plates.
The vehicle was impounded and while conducting an inventory of the vehicle for valuables prior to being towed, detectives located two loaded firearms, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. A check made with the Firearms Bureau revealed that neither Byron nor Matthew is authorized to carry a firearm or ammunition in the territory of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Both individuals were transported to Criminal Investigation Bureau, where they were arrested and charged with Carrying of a firearm openly/concealed, Possession or sale of ammunition, operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, and operating a motor vehicle with no affixed license plates. Bail was set at $50,000.00 each. Unable to post bail they were remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correction Facility pending their advise of rights hearing.
