St. Croix, Virgin Islands – On March 2, 2026, at approximately 1:47 a.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received several reports of a robbery at La Terreza Bar & Restaurant, in Estate Castle Coakley.
Upon the arrival of the responding officers, they contacted the victim who told them that she had been robbed. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau that were assigned to investigate the matter, met with the victim who disclosed that she was approached by Jeffry Escanio. That Escanio grabbed her gold chain off her neck and began to strangle her restricting her airway. The victim sustained injury because of this encounter. Witnesses supported the victim’s statement regarding the incident.
Contact was made with Escanio who was advised of his Miranda Rights, and he declined to give a statement. Jeffry Escanio, 31, was placed under arrest and charged with Robbery in the First Degree and Assault First. He was unable to post bail at $75,000.00. Therefore, he was transported and remanded to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing set for March 3, 2026.
