71-year-old Woman Arrested for Brandishing Unlicensed Firearm During Disturbance

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – On November 21, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a disturbance in the vicinity of Serita’s Place, Smithfield. Upon the arrival of the investigating Officers, they made contact with citizens who indicated that a firearm was brandished during this disturbance. Investigation into this matter revealed that Ms. Shirlyn Burks brought an unlicensed firearm into the territory. Further investigation revealed that this firearm was the one used during the assault.

Therefore, an arrest warrant was obtained from the Superior Court on January 26, 2026, for Burks’ arrest. On January 28, 2026, 71-year-old Shirlyn Burks was booked. She was unable to post bail at $50,000.00 and was remanded to the John Bell Adult Correction Facility pending Advice of Rights hearing.
