
St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – On Monday, May 19, 2025, at about 1:58 a.m., Patrol Bureau officers were dispatched via 911 Emergency Call Center to an auto accident on Queen Mary Highway north of Questa Verde. Upon arrival at the scene, the officers observed a vehicle in the bushes with damages. Upon making a check, Ms. Janet Velasquez, the driver of the vehicle, was observed standing outside the vehicle on the shoulder of the road. Velasquez was interviewed, and she stated that an unknown vehicle ran her off the road. An observation of Ms. Velasquez revealed that her speech was slightly slurred, her eyes appeared red and watery, and she had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath and person.
Janet Velasquez was transported to the Ancilmo Marshall Command Police Station where she was administered the Three Standardized Field Sobriety Test (Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand Test) to which she failed all three tests. Velasquez was submitted a breathalyzer to determine her alcohol content level; however, she failed because she was unable to blow into the machine. Janet Velasquez , age 43 was placed under arrest for Driving while under the Influence of an Intoxicating Liquor. Velasquez was transported to the Police Operations Administrative Building, where she was booked and processed. She posted bail of $1005.00 and was released.
