ST. CROIX, U.S. Virgin Islands — On Thursday, October 22, 2026, at approximately 9:07 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a notification from the VIPD gunshot detection system about shots fired in the Walter I.M. Hodge Housing Community, also known as Sofarelli, in Frederiksted. The call center also received multiple reports of two gunshot victims.
VIPD officers, Emergency Medical Services and Fire personnel responded to the scene. Both victims were transported to Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment.
A 17-year-old male succumbed to his injuries. He was identified by next of kin as Ky’jahnny Niles. The second victim, an 18-year-old male, was treated for his injuries and is in stable condition.
The investigation remains active. The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) asks anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers VI at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), 911, or the CIB at 340-778-2211.
