St. Croix Man Arrested on Firearms and Assault-Related Charges Following Investigation

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – Detectives with the Virgin Islands Police Department have arrested 42-year-old Johnny Taylor following an investigation that revealed he provided false information regarding a reported shooting incident.

On May 12, 2026, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a gunshot victim at the Juan F. Luis Hospital seeking medical attention. Detectives made contact with Johnny Taylor who reported that he had been robbed and shot by an unknown assailant.

Further investigation into the matter revealed that Johnny Taylor’s complaint was false. Investigators found that Taylor had allegedly attempt to assault another individual and accidently shot himself.

Based on the investigation, this matter was submitted for an arrest warrant and granted by an Honorable Judge of the Superior Court on July 15, 2026.

On July 21, 2026, at approximately 4:00 a.m., members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau along with the Special Operations Bureau executed a search and arrest warrant on Johnny Taylor and his residence. Taylor, 42, was placed under arrest and booked. He was charged with Carrying of firearm openly or concealed, Assault third, Carrying or using dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime of violence, Discharging or aiming firearms and Possession of ammunition.

Bail was set at $100,000.00. Unable to post bail, Taylor was remanded to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending his Advice of Rights hearing set for July 22, 2026, at the Superior Court.
