St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) extends its sincere gratitude to the community members who assisted in the apprehension of a drunk driver involved in the fatal accident on Veterans Drive on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
This tragic incident resulted in injuries to one pedestrian and the death of 49-year-old Tammy Harman. The VIPD is deeply appreciative of the community’s vigilance, swift response, and willingness to assist both the injured pedestrian and law enforcement officers during this critical situation. Because of the immediate actions taken by those on the scene, the suspect was unable to flee and was successfully apprehended. This outcome shows the vital role that community members play in supporting public safety efforts and helping to ensure accountability.
The VIPD commends all those who stepped forward and demonstrated care, responsibility, and cooperation during this difficult time. This incident highlights how effective collaboration between the community and law enforcement can help bring justice to victims and their families.
