Special Operations Bureau’s Traffic Stop Yield Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at approximately 1:05 a.m., members of the Special Operations Bureau observed a vehicle with no front license plate affixed to the front bumper of the vehicle traveling very slowly west on Julian Jackson Drive. Special Operations Bureau Officers initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle to ascertain if there was a problem with the vehicle or if the driver was impaired. The driver, later identified as Antonio Camacho, lowered the driver window of the vehicle and Officers immediately detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle for marijuana contraband and discovered a firearm. Antonio Camacho, 25, did not possess a license to carry a firearm and was then placed under arrest for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Failure to Securely attach License Plate. After failing to post $60,000.00 in bond he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advise of Rights Hearing.
