Man was Extradited to the Territory to Face Assault Charges

St. Thomas, USVI - On Monday, March 14, 2022, officers from the Forensics Bureau and Callwood Command were conducting a traffic stop when a male grabbed a VIPD Detective in a choke-hold, where the detective was on the verge of losing consciousness and was incapacitated. Officers were able to separate the male from the officer and he was subsequently detained.

On August 1, 2023, 26-year-old Raheem Smith was detained in Douglas County, Georgia after a Warrant of Arrest was obtained in regard to this matter. Smith waived extradition and was returned to the territory to face the charges on the warrant, which are Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, Aggravated Assault and Battery, Obstruction of Justice, Aiding and Abetting, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of a Firearm During a Crime of Violence. His bail was set at $150,000.00 in this matter.
