Man Found in Possession of Marijuana at St. Thomas Airport

St. Thomas, USVI - On Monday, June 19, 2023, at about 2:20 p.m., the Criminal Investigation Bureau was notified by Custom and Border Protection (CBP) to travel to the Cyril E. King Airport in reference to a possession of marijuana incident.

Upon arrival contact was made with CBP Officers who explained that they discovered 7.62 kg (16.799 lbs.) of marijuana inside the luggage of Kiani J. Smith who was detained pending the arrival of the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Upon making contact with 25-year-old Kiani Smith, he was advised of his Constitutional Rights, transported to the Alexander Farrelly Justice Complex, Criminal Investigation Bureau where he was booked, processed, and remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights Hearing. Mr. Smith is facing charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. Bail was set at $7,500.00 in this matter by order of the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.
