During this Holiday Season, Party with a Plan

U.S. Virgin Islands - The holiday season is a busy time on our roads. To keep drivers and their passengers safe, VI Police Department (VIPD) is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation-National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to remind drivers about drinking and driving. Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

“December is a busy time on our roads. Everyone is rushing around during the holiday period preparing for social gatherings and getting into the festive mood,” said VIOHS Director Daphne O’Neal. “If you plan to head out to festivities, make sure you plan a sober ride home, because driving drunk should never be an option. Even one drink is one drink too many if you are the driver. Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.”

If you plan on DRINKING, plan on NOT DRIVING! Doing so could change your life, not to mention the lives of your passengers, pedestrians, or other drivers and passengers nearby. Choose a Designated Driver. If you are the designated driver, make sure you keep that promise of safety to yourself and your passengers. Stay hydrated with water and other non-alcoholic beverages. Support other designated drivers. Take the role of a designated driver seriously - the other drivers, passengers, and pedestrians on the streets people are relying on you.

For more information on impaired driving, contact the Virgin Islands Office of Highway Safety through the Impaired Driving Coordinator, K’ Tonya Petrus at k’tonya.petrus@vi.gov, or VIOHS Director, Daphne O’Neal at daphne.oneal@vipd.vi.gov.
