Surveillance Footage Leads to Man’s Arrest for Assault

St. Thomas, USVI - On Saturday, November 26th, 2022, at approximately 8:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to Happy View Market regarding an assault but was unable to make contact with the victim in this matter. Officers and Detectives were later dispatched to the Roy Lester Schneider Medical Center regarding the same assault and made contact with the alleged victim. The victim stated that while he was outside of Happy View Market in the area of Lindberg Bay, he was struck in the face by an unknown male causing him to fall down and obtain a laceration to his head. The victim stated that he did not know why the suspect struck him to his face nor is he familiar with the suspect, but he knows him to frequent the area. Later that evening, detectives obtained surveillance footage of the incident and was able to identify both the suspect and victim in this matter.

In the footage, the suspect is seen shoving the victim with his shoulder, the victim is visibly intimidated by the suspect and attempting to get out of his way. The suspect then reaches out and slaps the victim who then falls backwards hitting his head on the concrete floor and passing out outside of the store. He is observed motionless on the ground for a period of five minutes before waking up.

On Monday, November 28th, 2022, the suspect in this case who was identified as 42-year-old Kishawn Berkeley, AKA “Shawn” was placed under arrest at 10:00 a.m. for the assault after he was seen and identified as the person on camera who assaulted the victim. Berkeley is facing charges of Assault 3rd and Simple Assault and Battery, with a bail set to $25,000.00. He was read his rights, COVID tested and remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of rights hearing.
