30-year-old Man Extradited to St. Croix for Grand Larceny

St. Croix, USVI - The Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Virgin Islands Police Department investigated a reported Grand Larceny involving 30-year-old Jaheel Smith.

On Friday, October 2, 2020, at about 9:20 p.m., police were dispatched by the 911 Emergency Call Center to Plaza Extra - East, for a larceny incident. Contact was made with the manager of Plaza Extra – East, who reported that Mr. Jaheel Smith was observed removing several boxes of alcoholic beverages from their shelves. The manager confronted Mr. Smith, and he admitted to stealing over a period of several months between $60,000.00 to $80,000.00 worth of alcoholic beverages which he then sold to several local businesses.

Further investigation was conducted into the matter and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. Mr. Smith left the territory and was subsequently picked up by Liberty County Sheriff Department in Georgia on November 12, 2022. Mr. Smith signed a waiver of extradition, and he was picked up and transported back to St. Croix on November 23, 2022. He is charged with Grand Larceny and Embezzlement by Employee and bail was set at $35,000.00.

He was unable to post bond and was subsequently transported and remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending Advised of Rights Hearing on Friday, November 25, 2022.
