25-Year-Old Man Arrested for Bank Fraud

St. Croix, USVI - Jeremiah Cheatham was arrested after an investigation was initiated on January 18, 2022, by detectives from the Economic Crimes Unit.The investigation revealed that on three separate occasions, Jeremiah Cheatham wrote three checks against the victim’s First Bank checking account totaling $3,540.00 and made several PayPal transactions, totaling $7,564.91, without her permission. This caused the victim to suffer a total loss of $11,104.91.

On Monday, September 26, 2022, at approximately 8:00a.m., 25-year-old Jeremiah Cheatham turned himself in at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station. At 8:27a.m., Detectives of the Virgin Islands Police Department Economic Crimes Unit, executed an Arrest Warrant and placed Cheatham under arrest at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, without incident. Cheatham was charged with Forgery, Obtaining Money by False Pretense, Grand Larceny and Access to A Computer for Fraudulent Purposes.

Cheatham was then processed and booked. Bail was set at $20,000.00. Unable to post bail Cheatham was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending an Advice of Rights Hearing scheduled, for Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
