Man Arrested After a Firearm Was FoundIn Vehicle During a Traffic Stop on Melvin Evans

Frederiksted, St. Croix - On Sunday, September 25, 2022, the Special Operations Bureau (SOB) was conducting Street Operations and saturated patrol at 1:55a.m., when they traffic stopped a grey Acura RDX, for failing to stop at a red traffic light at the intersection of the Industrial Park on the Melvin Evans Highway. While on the traffic stop, the officers immediately smelled what appeared to be a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside of said vehicle. The officers also observed a green leafy substance in a transparent plastic bag in the driver’s door pocket. The driver was asked if there were any more illegal narcotics inside of his vehicle, in which he stated “yes”, and then began rumbling through the middle console compartment of the vehicle. The officers then instructed the male individual to exit the vehicle, and the driver was uncooperative; eventually he turned off the vehicle and exited the vehicle. A further search of the vehicle was conducted, and a black Glock 22 .40 Caliber handgun was discovered in the middle console of the compartment.
