“Operation Gridlock” Seize Gun and Drugs, 1 Arrested

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas - On Sunday, July 17, 2022, the Virgin Islands Police Department “Operation Gridlock,” Task Force consisting of Officers from Special Operations Bureau, Department of Licensing & Consumer Affairs and Department of Planning and Natural Resources were conducting traffic enforcement on Wimmelskaft Gade (Back Street).

A Gray Acura was observed traveling eastward at 9:39p.m., without a license plate affixed to the front bumper of the vehicle and the windshield tint with written lettering was below the AS1 Line.

When Officers asked the operator of the vehicle for his documents, they detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Both the operator and his front seat passenger who was a minor female were asked to exit the vehicle.

Upon conducting a search of the vehicle for marijuana, officers discovered a Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun under the driver’s seat of the vehicle and two jars containing marijuana along with an AWS scale, two grinders and other drug paraphernalia for drug distribution.

Mr. Petersen was placed under arrest for Carrying a Firearm without Authorization, Possession of Ammunition and Possession with Intent to Distribute. The bail was set at $57,500. 30-year-old Alexander Milton Petersen was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections, pending advice of rights hearing.
