Two Women Charged with Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card

ST. THOMAS, USVI – The Virgin Islands Police Department’s Economic Crime Unit detectives – on issued warrants – arrested 22-year-old Imai Demming of Michael Kirwan Terrace on January 3 at 12:13 p.m., and 23-year-old Mayasia Smith of Charlotte Amalie on January 4 at 12:30 p.m. Both women were charged with Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card and Grand Larceny, with Smith receiving an additional charge of Embezzlement by Fiduciaries.

Imai Demming

Demming and Smith allegedly made over $800 worth of unauthorized online credit card purchases from Walmart & Fashion Nova in August 2021. Bail for Demming and Smith was set at $20,000 each. Unable to post bail, both women were turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections, pending their Advice of Rights hearings. The US Postal Inspector assisted with the investigation.
